Hammersmith's 1st anniversary - free cupcake!
If anyone has been considering trying out this great little brunch place that I love (obviously), this is a good weekend for it. It's their 1-year anniversary and they are giving each guest a free cupcake to say "thank you". It should be a pretty quiet weekend there, between the long weekend and Pride going on, so a good opportunity to avoid the madness of downtown. They are at Gerrard and Logan and are open all weekend, including Monday.

We went before noon on Monday. By the time our meals were done, all the cupcakes were gone, though I had seen them being handed out to patrons just before. It was a bit of a disappointment. That and the fact that there were a number of items on the (already small) menu that were no longer available. Plus my omelette was overcooked (read like a dry sponge) and really lacking in flavour, and the bacon hash was disappointing - a pile of pre-baked, overcooked (as in dark brown) potato cubes that were lukewarm and lacking any crispness, with a couple of half-slices of bland bacon and some caramelized onions that were good but not capable of saving the dish. The side veggies were well-executed (from salads to asparagus), probably the highlight. I really wanted to leave feeling like I wanted to go back, but it just didn't happen, alas.
