re: lergnom
There is a state wide law that if you purchase a bottle of wine at a restaurant and don't finish it, the restaurant can seal it in a bag with a receipt. I am not aware that Brookline allows BYOB (used to live there for 10 years) *or* that the sealing of the bottle applies to anything other than a bottle purchased at the restaurant.
However, I hope I am wrong. Makes me long for the years I spent in Spain when back then, you could pick up your food to go along with a body of their house wine, poured into a clean empty bottle and "sealed" with a cork on top.

re: Madrid
Brookline has and I believe continues to allow BYOB. Tsumani Sushi in Coolidge Corner (which is now an Israeli place) was my favorite BYOB for years. We used to go to the wine shop a few doors away to pick up a few Sapporos or a nice bottle of Saki. Big sign in the window that advertised they were BYOB. I can't remember if they had a corking fee, but I don't think there was one.
The corking fee reminded me... Can't you bring a bottle of wine to a restaurant and have them cork it for you in Boston? I swear we did that with a bottle someone brought back from Italy at Abe and Louies or Grill 23 once. I remember being slightly offended that the fee was in the $20 to $25 range, and think that was Boston (although 12 years back or so).

re: Foodie_BBQ
"While state laws strictly limit the number of liquor licenses for a given community, the state leaves BYOB regulations up to local cities and towns. Some communities, such as Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, have banned the practice, but Brookline doesn’t have any regulations on the subject, making it legal by default. There’s one caveat: state law does ban the practice at establishments that already have liquor licenses."

Well, the South End is kind of between Brookline and Southie, so how about Picco on Tremont Street? Great pizza and a relatively large outdoor dining area.
Not a ton in the way of outdoor dining in Brookline; Southie has a bunch, mostly on the waterfront. I like Salvatore's over by the waterfront--decent Italian, small but nice outdoor area, and the prices aren't overly expensive.

re: hiddenboston
The outdoor dining in Brookline consists of sitting a few feet away from the traffic on Beacon St. The Fireplace, Jimmy V's, Golden Temple, Publick House, Umami , all in Washington Sq. Umami is little farther back from the curb. Beacon St. Tavern at St. Mary's. On Comm Ave, cross st. Babcock, Brown Sugar Cafe has outdoor seating, also curbside. Deep Ellum in Allston has a patio in the back, as does Devlin's.

re: CookieLee
I'd add Audubon Circle and their back patio to that Brookline list, although I believe that part of Beacon St. is actually Boston. Audubon is a neighborhood-y (not fancy) restaurant that has tasty burgers/homefries, excellent potstickers and a solid beer-snob menu. There's also Taberna De Haro (curbside tables) in St. Mary's. I haven't been to TDH in years, but I believe from other reviews it is still a well regarded tapas restaurant.
Also, doesn't Eastern Standard have a large patio seating area right in Kenmore Sq? That would hit outdoor, upscale, romantic, cocktails.
For all three of these, you can usually park on Beacon St. between Audubon and Kenmore as long as it's not a Sox night.

Add Taberna de Haro for good Spanish tapas and wines on Beacon and St. Marys to the above lists. Note that, as Cookie Lee pointed out, nothing outdoors in Brookline is particularly scenic. For that, you might want to try Davios in Cambridge with its patio on the Charles River. Still, we're urban types so we go with the outdoor seating and the car traffic. Casa Romero has a pretty little interior patio (Back Bay, Hereford Street) and ok to good Mexican/Spanish food.
