Farm2door Hot Dogs and More at New Amsterdam Market

Dave Feldman Jun 26, 2012 03:40 PM

I love going to the New Amsterdam Market on Sundays (at the site of the old Fulton Fish Market): it is less congested than the other big outdoor markets, and some of the regular vendors (e.g., Nordic Breads, Lillibit Caramels) are outstanding. My latest discovery is the hot dog at Farm2door, purveyed by the enthusiastic Michael Solyn. Farm2door sells only NY-based sustainable, meats, cheese, and charcuterie (you can read all about it at www.nyfarm2door.com).

Notwithstanding the purity of Solyn's intentions, I'm most enthusiastic about the TASTE of his hot dog, which is an all-beef nitrate-free natural casing 70/30 mix that might be the tastiest hot dog I've ever eaten, and maybe the most highly spiced. It's narrow and long, too, and with the superb, crisp casing, the crunch/snap factor is ideal. Michael sells the hot dogs, and a quick battle with my grill pan yields a great home hot dog. My nephew and his fiancee swear by the steaks and other meats, too, which I haven't tried yet.

Michael is eager to talk about his work, and you can buy a hot dog or hamburger or buy them in bulk. Farm2door is located across the street from the main market, in the Fulton Stalls.
