Tasting Menu: East Bay under $50 each
Hello CH,
I want to treat a friend to a tasting menu expericing for his birthday and I am on a budget.
Does anyone one have a recommendation for a restaurant prefebably in Oakland/Berkeley area with a tasting menu for each for $50 or less?

I don't know anywhere that does a full on tasting menu (amuse, chef's choice, etc.) for that price, but Bellanico does a 4-course menu for $30 with optional wine pairings. With each course, you get a choice of two options. The food is excellent, so this is one of the best deals in town.

If you don't like their wine pairings, they have several different wine flights to chose from. Also, if you're not happy with the food options on the tasting menu, you can easily assemble a four course meal at Bellanico for under $50. The $12 ciccetti sampler, especially the fried olives, is a great add on.
