JUBELT'S BAKERY: ROADFOOD 1 HOUR NORTH OF ST LOUIS

For a road stop an hour north of St Louis just off 55 I recommend Jubelt's Bakery in Litchfield IL---come off 55 heading east on 16 and you will see their sign; actual address is 303 N Old Rt 66. Routine breakfasts and lunches but this family has been in the bakery business since German immigrant ancestors arrived a century ago. My memory of their baked goods goes back 75 years---it was this memory that later inspired me to start baking in the first place. They also sell cakes to take home for the freezer--- look for their signature Peanut Coffee Cake.

Thanks for the note on the baked goods...I stopped for lunch one time and didn't find it particularly memorable. Usually stop at Ariston if needing a stop, but since I live in theSt. Louis area, usually the timing isn't right.
