Bas-Saint-Laurent - Fromagerie Le Mouton blanc
Stopped into Fromagerie Le Mouton blanc as we saw the sign on the highway and wanted to go to a cheese factory. They have a boutique right on the farm and they sell their cheese (sheep`s milk cheese) and also cheese from other farmers nearby. The young gentleman let us try the cheese and also explained a lot of how they make their cheese. Very friendly and informative, with a good sense of humor.
We tried the aged cheddar, and smoked cheddar and another milder cheese (don`t remember the name). They were all delicious, however we chose to purchase the smoked cheddar and the aged cheddar. We also purchased a cured sausage that was 70% lamb and 30% cheese and it was one of the best cured sausages I`ve had........again he let us try this before purchasing. We also purchased a lamb salami type meat that was very tasty and a jar oc green tomato chow that we just opened today and are enjoying. Everything they had was local and most items, maybe all had not preservatives. Well worth the five minute detour and I`d go back in a heartbeat if it was closer to home. Next trip we`ll be stopping in again.
