Wangs Kitchen, New Desi-Chinese in Milpitas

Wondering if anyone else has tried Wangs Kitchen in Milpitas . . . it’s part of an Indian chain and specializes in Indian-style Chinese cooking. A few years ago I was on the hunt for Desi-Chinese and didn’t have much luck finding good examples. So naturally I made a stop when I spotted this in the Ranch 99 complex last month. It had only been open a week at that point. Not a very good experience but I’m wondering if I ordered the wrong thing.
I went with the lunch special that comes with soup of the day, rice and an egg roll. The vegetarian hot and sour soup may be the worst I've ever been served. Basically cornstarch brown goop flavored with vinegar, white pepper, some hot chili and shreds of raw cabbage and carrots. The same carrot and cabbage slaw stuff added a spot of color to offset the egg rolls, which were freshly fried and acceptable.
For my entrée, Szechwan fish. In flipping through the descriptions on the main menu to understand the selections on the lunch specials, I mixed up my order getting this instead of a dry curry prep. Too bad I didn’t just order chili chicken and be done with it. Steamed rice was hard as rocks. The fish was coated in thin batter and cooked competently, not dried out. The brownish-red gravy was overly thickened and medium-spicy and not terribly complex. Pretty much a waste of a meal and $10+change.
Since the other people eating around me looked happy, what’s the word here?
