Great Wall in FLorence, MA
I know Great Wall is not favored on these boards but six of us had a really wonderful meal there last night.
First Caveat: Order off the "Gourmet Menu".
We had Vietnamese Spring Rolls , both vegetarian and with shrimp( which we requested specially and which they provided for no upcharge from chicken ones) with a nice spicy peanut sauce
Scallion pancakes which were very crispy
Shrimp and chicken dumplings, steamed
Stir fried local mustard greens
Vegetarian Dragon Skin (tofu skin stuffed with black mushrooms)
Whole flounder pan fried with ginger and scallions *** exceptionally wonderful
Eggplant stuffed with chicken and shrimp
Akai rice ( a red, black and brown rice mix)
Everything was really good !
for all this as well as two beers and a big portion of Herrell's green tea ice cream we paid $107. Everyone left very satisfied. And on a hot night it was well air conditioned but not frigid.
I want to add a resounding AMEN to your comments!
My husband and I both just read a couple of mouth-watering mysteries featuring a Shanghai detective/poet/foodie (author's name Qiu, highly recommended) and just knew we had to schlepp over to Florence to the Great Wall because our excellent local Chinese restaurant just doesn't do the cool dishes the Great Wall offers on their gourmet menu. We've promised ourselves we're going to work our way through the gourmet menu by the end of the summer.
I do wish the place were a little less shabby, but on the other hand with the quality food they serve at the reasonable prices they charge, I'm more than ready to keep my eyes on my plate.
