Gigino at Wagner park or Crispo for outdoor birthday dinner.

  • 7

This evening I have a choice of either Crispo or Gigino at Wagner Park for my birthday dinner. There will be 5 of us in the party. Any thoughts on which would be the better choice for food quality and setting?

  1. I went to Crispo with a party of 6 and sat in their back patio recently and it was way, way too loud.i don't know what the deal is with the acoustics, but no one in our party enjoyed it, despite the great food and wine. We even asked the waiter what the deal was and he said he was having a tough time too and that people were just loud. He looked miserable. I don't know if that was just a fluke or what, but it made for a truly terrible experience that would definitely ruin you birthday. For what it's wortt, I'm 33 and generally not overly sensitive to noise.

    1. Love the food at Crispo, but agree about the noise. Gigino is a better choice.

      1. The others are right: It can be very loud at Crispo. It isn't always, but it's a crapshoot.

        1. I like them both very much, but sitting outside at Gigino with the boundless, majestic view of the Hudson harbor is much more special. I think it's the better choice for a celebration. And I like the food very much too. Loved the chilled yellow tomato soup and the rice ball I had. Can't go wrong with Crispo for food, and being in their back patio is better than not being outside at all. But you can't beat that Hudson harbor view at Gigino!

          1. Crispo's atmosphere does not compare to Gigino's. The food at Crispo, in my opinion, is just OK.
Gigino's food is certainly as good as Crispo's. As another poster pointed out, Crispo is a very loud place. Gigino would be my choice

I haven't been to Gigino, but I disagree that Crispo's food is "just OK." I find it very good, though not great like some of the better high-end Italian restaurants in New York.

Perhaps I was too harsh about the food at Crispo. I was comparing it,in my mind, to other restaurants that I find are superior. I will retract the "just OK" and change it to "very good", The food at Crispo is very good and the food at Gigino is very good. Actually, the food at Gigino in Tribeca is better than at Wagner Park. At one time they had different menus, but I believe they have the same menu now. My favorite dish at Gigino is the " Padrino" a pasta with beets. It is a really good dish. At Crispo, I remember the anchovies being delicious, and the orrichiette with broccoli rabe and sausage
                ws done very well.
