I was just walking by when I saw that they were filming at Sals pizzeria. I asked and found out that they were filming Kitchen Nightmares.

thanks for the clarification. swung by the only sal's pizzeria i know -- which is anything but nightmarish -- and they had no clue what i was talking about :)

Sorry about that! I saw trucks and cameras and people standing around. I asked one of the guys and they told me it was Kitchen Nightmares. It's a block away from the Chocolate Room. I was wondering how it could be a nightmare considering they got an A in health inspection back on March 20, 2012.

Accoring to the NY Health inspection website, they also go by the name Mamma Maria restaurant.

            oh, i wasn't criticizing at all :)
other than ray's, that may be one of our more common pizzeria names. it could be interesting to watch.

fwiw, most of the 'kitchen nightmares' i've seen have focused on internal squabbles and bad cash flow, not outright bad kitchens

            1. re: debinqueens

Weird. Everyone I have ever watched had the obligatory eews and icks as he runs through the kitchens finding disgusting thing after disgusting thing after disgusting thing.

The worst part is that almost all of the restaurants he "helps" fall back into their old ways 6 months after he leaves.

Does not bode well for the long term viability of this pizzeria.

              1. re: StheJ

well, with 55 years in business, i think they may stay viable just a teeny tiny bit longer using just their current customer base.

maybe i am wrong, but i thought restaurant impossible was the 'eww' and 'ick' generator, and kitchen nightmares the one where people say 'are these people morons?'

                1. re: debinqueens

ill admit in public for the first time that im a little bit addicted to these types of shows - i do think that, in general, restaurant impossible tends to be grosser and kitchen nightmares (the american version anyway) plies the "how do these idiots function, let alone "run" a restaurant".

That said, all these shows fall into a few broad categories: incompotent owners being taken advantage of by unscrupulous employees, incompotent owners running their own business into the ground (delusions/external financial pressure/family drama), formerly successful entrepreneurs who have failed to adapt to changes in the neighborhoods or peoples' food tastes.

the british version of kitchen nightmares was, to my mind, more successful because it generally portrayed the owners as jerks with hubris problems, and i find some of the family drama/idiots being taken advantage of to be hard to watch.

on an on-topic note: has anyone eaten here?
