Fresh acai berries and black currants?

I was just wondering if there is a place in the Bay Area that sells fresh acai berries and black currants? I remember seeing them fresh in the UK, but not here...

Not sure about black currants, but you're likely to never see fresh acai berries in a store, they are completely perishable within 48 hours of harvest, so you won't even see fresh acai berries at stores in Brazil. Even if you get fresh acai berries, they are 95% seed and need to be soaked to soften the fruit and separate it from the seed. The process is messy and you'll likely need a special machine (type of beater) unless you want to stain your hands and make a mess. What you can find is fresh acai puree or in the U.S. freshly frozen acai berry puree like the ones from Amafruits, check them out at www.amafruits.com.

I've seen fresh black currants on restaurant menus. California Rare Fruit Growsers might help you find some:

I've seen fresh black currants at Berkeley Bowl (on rare occasions in season).
