Best Root Beer Selection?

We're having a party where we're going to do a root beer float bar, and try combos of different brands of root beer and vanilla ice cream.

So. Who has the best root beer selection in the Cities?

  1. i do not know who has the best but i think the most root beer i have seen in terms of variety is at the hardware store near the italian pie shop on grand avenue in saint paul. it is quite impressive.

    1. Ace Hardware on Grand is the store that zfwp is referring to. They have all kinds of classic pop and candy--worth a trip.

Yep, that one I knew about. Other ideas?

      2. Minnesota's largest candy store in Jordan. Their selection of root beer is pretty amazing.

Here is a Heavy Table article about the place:

I wanted to go there, but they don't open until July. (Which is bizarre.)

I think it's because they are also and apple orchard and farm...so they open when they start to harvest stuff. It's really a fun place, you should check it out anyway.

        2. I'm not sure why you need options. I would just get kegs of 1919 and call it a day. :)

1919's on the list. But variety is the spice of life, they say.

Pumphouse Creamery at 48th & Chicago in Minneapolis has a broad selection of root beer.

          2. Nelson Cheese & Deli on Como near the State Fairgrounds has about 10 different varieties of bottled root beer.

            1. Beisswengers Hardware store in New Brighton has a large selection of not only root beer, but other sodas as well.

Frattallone's Ace Hardware Stores and Garden Centers with several locations across the Twin Cities also has a selection of root beer. There must have been a recommendation at some hardware convention to stock soda in bottles for all these hardware stores to get the idea at the same time.
