Wine Pairing at Baker and Banker? [San Francisco]

SFDude Jun 15, 2012 05:39 PM

I am going to be eating at Baker and Banker this weekend and saw they have prix fix menu and an accompanying wine pairing. I was wondering if anyone had every tried the wine pairing there and what their thoughts were. I have often been disappointed by wine pairings. Sometimes they seem like little more than the normal wine by the glass selections and other times the sommelier seems to be trying too hard. On the other hand, when the work, they can be fabulous. Any thoughts?

I really enjoy Baker and Banker. Good food and enjoyable.

I haven't tried their wine pairings, but I tend to avoid wine pairings unless the sommelier (consulting or on staff) is featured in some way on the website, on twitter etc. Or the wine menu really jumps out. There used to be a great sommelier called Collin, not sure if he's still there. The last time I was at the restaurant, their wine selections by the glass were not very impressive.

Collin hasn't been at Baker and Banker for over 2 years

Can't have been over two years. He was definitely there in late 2010. Could have been over a year ago.

I am also unsure whether Collin has any influence over the wine list even after leaving as sommellier, or if they got someone else to consult. The last time I was at Baker and Banker, a few months ago, the wine list by the glass was definitely lacking, and it leads me to believe that Collin is not there/has not been replaced but as I said - not sure.
