Blue Ribbon BBQ Food Truck - 2nd Avenue, Needham
What a treat for the office workers in the Newton Upper Falls / Needham area! The truck is located in a parking lot at 262 2nd Ave, a few blocks down from the Panera. A colleague and I stopped by today, where a long line had already formed by 11:30a. (The line moved pretty quickly, though.)
I got the Kansas City Burnt Ends sandwich (asked for it on white bread instead of the bulky bulkies they have). All sandwiches ($8) come with two sides (potato salad, bag o' chips, cowboy beans, or cornbread). I got cowboy beans which were flavorful and rich, plus a gigantic slab of corn bread (a crusty corner piece, no less!).
Sandwich was delicious and not toooo fatty. I'm so happy to have this option near my office. They take credit cards and are open till 7pm. For lunch, though, be ware: by noon, there were dozens of people in line.
Went for dinner there last night. Got there around 6:15 (they are open until 7, M-Fr), and they were starting to take down the tables, but the food (and those smells!) were still there.
They do seem to plan well on how much food to have on hand, as they told us they were down to 1 of this and 2 of that, when we were considering our order.
Wife got burnt ends sandwich, the meat was a bit more shredded than either of us was used to, but it was very good. I got the "1/3 rack of ribs" platter. Which said on the sign that it was 3-4 ribs, but they gave me 6! Which I thoroughly devoured, leaving the sides for some time in the future. No sauce needed, nice smoke ring, great rub, truly delicious.
Talked to the guy in charge, they tow the rig over there every morning, clean it up at night and tow it back to their provisioning site. They are very pleased with the lunch crowd, dinner crowds are variable. Get good visits from the new Charles River Landing apartments, and from those of us in the area needing some Q,especially with Midtown gone. Asked him about Midtown, he didn't have much to say, not surprisingly.
I went there again during work last week, and had the "Trash ribs" special, which was a delicious fatty mess. I ate it at the stand-up table so I could chuck my bones directly into the trash barrel next to it. Mmmm.
I'm glad this truck is here. They're so so nice, too. Sad that I'm leaving my company in September to start school in Boston!
