  1. I don't know why, maybe it was too many Long Island Ice Teas back many years ago, but I seem to remember loving their nachos...

I loved their "Broccoli Bites".. have not found anything else that comes even close. These were little fried balls of broccoli, cheese, and bacon, served with a honey mustard dipping sauce.

Eh, I'd still pass at this point.. not something I miss THAT much. Just fond memories, I guess. :)

I've had Rattlesnake Bites at Texas Roadhouse in Old Bridge. But looking at copycat recipes online, they don't include broccoli. I was disappointed with the quality of their steak and couldn't recommend it.

Their buffalo wings were the absolute best, until they destroyed them, along with the entire chain in the early 2000s. It would be nice to have them back in the old Saddle Brook location, if they can keep up with the times.

      3. Place was the worst chain restaurant meal I have ever had. I feel bad for the people that think this is somehow good for this town. Microwave something at home is my advice.

        1. Any idea if they are reopening at the former Midland Ave location? There are plans to open a sports bar called Buck Foston at the site of the old New Brunswick location. But the town has taken exception to the name. A Buffalo Wild Wings replaced the one in North Brunswick, and Houlihans now occupies the one on route 1 in Woodbridge.

Prior to the closings, their menu was in serious need of an overhaul.

Don't ya just love those who wax 'nostalgic'? The abdication of memory is what's in play here.

          2. I enjoyed the Englewood location, now a diner off of rt 4, back in the day. If memory serves they had great wings and burgers. out of all the places of their ilk (applebees, fridays, chilis) i thought Bennigans and Houlihans were superior. where in Saddle Brook are they opening - I probably would go check it out for lunch.

It's at the same old location on Midland Avenue across from the Industrial Park at the crossroads of 80 and the GSP

            2. Dude, this place is utterly PACKED every time I drive by. O admit I'm at least curious....seems like part of a nationwide rebranding/overhaul.

              1. Gotta give Bennigan's credit... they are they original restaurant of their ilk... which is a diner disguised as a pub...

                1. Have driven by many times, and the place is always packed. It's an interesting location -- near schoos, office buildings, industrial park, etc. Near some major highways, surrounded by several different towns, areas.

I know several people who have gone for lunch, happy hour, a bite to eat, etc. -- and they all have given good reports. The typical "pub grub" with their own twist of some items, quasi American pub grub, with a hint or flair of the Irish theme. Check out the menu.

Is the "hint" of Irish theme the beer?

I have no idea, LOL. Just referring to their own marketing, tag line, etc. I forgot exactly what it is, but it's there. LOL.

Might be "Irish hospitality" -- and perhaps that's it. LOL.

                    2. re: ELA

Even though I lived and worked in the area, I never knew about this place and had never been to any Bennigans until a friend suggested meeting up there. I wanted to like it more than I actually did. I expect that this second coming is an improvement.

Anyone know if they have the same nachos recipe they did about 20 years ago? I used to love their nachos.

"Good reports". McD's gets good reports too... But of course, and expecially today in NNJ, there are so many other better choices. There are real Irish pubs that are just 1000x better in terms of just about every eategory of restaurant criteria.
