Iconic Lunch Spots UWS--Want to surprise mom?

bklynkat Jun 14, 2012 08:14 AM

Any suggestions for inconic "ladies" lunch spots on the west side between 81st and 40th?
I'd like to surprise my mom after our visit to the Hayden P. Something decadent and over the top is fine--
Please feel free to suggest east side, too, as long as the suggestion is between those streets. The Carlysle is on the list but I'd love other suggestions.

Thank you!

Iconic as has been around for a really longtime?

Barney Greengrass at 87th and Amsterdam. I know that's slightly north of 81st, but iconic in the sense that it's been around so long that it's an institution, that's it.

But it's not "decadent" or "over the top."

For that, how about Jean Georges at Columbus Circle. They have a 2-course $38 lunch.

If you like seafood, consider Le Bernardin. Otherwise, Jean Georges is a good suggestion.
