looking for a place for dinner not too upscale/touristy ...not sure whats open

thought about dantes..lukes....tommys...coquette.....in addition will be taking a ride up the river road to see some of the plantations looping accross the big muddy and coming back from the west bank...any thoughts on places to eat...lived in nola over 29 years ago so i know things have changed

Is driving an option, or do you wish to walk, or take public transportation?
What is "not too upscale" to you?
Any particular cuisine that you crave?
Should be lots of options.

The Grill Room, at the Windsor Court, IS up-scale, and while good, can probably be ruled out.
Not that far away, in the FQ (French Quarter), G W Fins is a very good, mid-scale seafood restaurant, that features local seafood, with local preps.
I also like he Emeril Lagasse group, NOLA and Emeril's, which are also close by - one in the FQ, and the other in he Warehouse Disrict.
