"Butter Bells"

I know they were uber popular several years ago, but haven't seen/heard much about them for awhile.

Does anyone here use a "Butter Bell"? Do you like it? Does it really keep butter soft & fresh out on the counter instead of cold & hard in the fridge?

Count me another enthusiast. I got one about two years ago. It allows me to have butter available right beside the stove with the pepper grinder, salt dish, and olive oil.

The water gets changed every 2-3 days. When it gets warm in the kitchen, I chill the base with cool water and add an ice cube to the water. Exposure to oxygen is what really spoils butter, so the bell works a charm to keep it fresh.

Would not be without one now.

What ellabee said. We love ours & have used one for years, in all seasons. There's a week or two in summer when we put ours in the fridge, but most of the time it stays on the counter and keeps our butter soft and fresh.

I bought a really attractive one this year, and I haven't looked back. So far, we haven't had very hot weather, so I don't know how it will fare, but I adore having soft butter at the ready.

My butter kept slipping out of the bell despite multiple efforts (yay, Texas summers!). Wasn't worth the trouble and butter softens quickly on the countertop, here.

I have one and use it mostly in the winter. I have to change the water frequently (and salt it) during warmer months to insure freshness.
