ISO: the name of the NY deli that was in Mid State Mall, in East Brunswick, in the 80s

Growing up in East Brunswick, there was a New York style deli in Mid State Mall, on the corner near ShopRite where Franks Pizza is now. This is back in the days of BEST being where Best Buy is now, and Acme Supermarket where Borders used to be. My family and I would go to this deli at least twice a month, and I can still taste the chicken-in-a-basket I would get there every time. They would serve big bowls of assorted pickles and coleslaw. There were glass blocks, the tables and banquettes were a kind of mauve-ish plum, there were dried salami hanging from the ceiling—clearly, this place has left an indelible impression on my mind. But I brought it up recently to my parents, who still live in EB, and they looked at me like I was insane.

I know that if I can find the name of the deli, it will jog their memory (and their faith in my sanity might be restored)—but I've spent 2 weeks trying to come up with it, and I've got nothing.

Any help, or at least validation, that this deli existed would be greatly appreciated! I wouldn't be surprised if it was called "New York Deli," or something generic like that, but I've got to know I'm not the only one who remembers it!

Thanks!

I do remember going to that deli, but also for the life of me can't remember the name of it. I think it was along that row where Karen's Kurtains used to be. Maybe you can get in touch with mall management & they can give you the name of it.

Ah, I used to always go there as a kid and loved the pickles! Mmm, half sours...unfortunately, I do not remember the name either.

Wait -- my mom just confirmed. The name was simply "Kosher Deli."

Thank you! At least thanks to you two, my parents can't argue that it was a figment of my imagination. :)

Waaaiiiiit... was it called Kosher Korner? When I did a search for "kosher deli" in Mid State Mall, I found this... from 1991, so that's about the right time... I just don't remember it being a Kosher Deli AND kosher Chinese food.... ???

That was well before my time in EB, but glad you found out what it was. I moved to EB around the time Borders and Mid State Lanes were closing up shop. I seldom go there as there are more convenient locations for the chains they have. I go to Shop Rite in Spotswood and Staples in Milltown. I prefer Dick's across the street to Sports Authority, and I go to Petco and not Pet Smart. If I do make a visit, it's usually for Best Buy. Frank's Pizza is decent, but nothing I can't get elsewhere.
