Water instead of Milk?
I have a bunch of Martha White Muffin Mixes in the pantry, and want to know whether I can use water instead of milk in the mixes? Does anyone know?
Why don't they include powdered milk in the mix? Their corn muffin mix includes it, and is labeled as 'use water or milk'.
I suspect a marketing ploy. Consumers will think it's a better product if it calls for milk, not just water. Sometimes mixes can be too easy.
I'm surprised these don't require eggs. My scratch recipes use eggs (or egg substitute like flax meal). I read that early cake mix users were also suspicious of mixes that didn't require eggs. Apparently those days are past.
