Kosher in Ottowa?
For me, the availability of kosher restaurants is important in choosing
a travel destination, and as part of an enjoyable vacation experience.
But obviously this is very limiting. We are now considering a vacation from
the NYC area to Ottowa Canada.
Does anyone have any first hand, current information about what is available
there in the way of kosher eateries, or kosher food?
Thanks very much!
very little, unfortunately
In the days used to go to Ottawa on business, I always traveled from Montreal and took a cooler with deli with me.
There is limited selection in the Loblaws Supermarket in the link above. I have not eaten at the Deli at the JCC, as I don't find JCC dining experiences appealing (in general, and the ones here at home in CT are particularly bad, changing management and menus frequently, as well as closing for lack of business).
As a family vacation destination, Ottawa, the Canadian capital is worth no more than 2 days and one night. In summer there are visits to the government buildings and parks, but your kids may find it boring, nothing like the attractions Washington DC offers (such as the Smithsonian) and if you are not Canadain of British the monuments may be meaningless to you. In winter a couple of hours of fun skating on the Rideau Canal is a gret but bone chilling experience.
If you are driving, Ottawa is a doable day trip from Montreal which has a great selection of kosher dining and provisions; and may be a better vacation destination choice.
