Whats good- mid fifties W of Bway for quick dinner- sorting the wheat from the chaff
In recent months we have been seeing a lot of cheap tix theater in the W 50s - there are scads of restaurants lining the streets in this area especially thai - I know that the original wondee was good but it was packed on our last foray - would really appreciate some suggestions that are better than eating at home and then heading for the theater....from felafel, afghan and thai to,,, anything that is truly delicious and not too fancy.

on the lower priced -- and lighter -- end of things, i've always liked kashkaval on 9th (if 9th isnt too far out of the way). cheeses, fondues, little salad plates and a low key wine list.
natsumi, which is actually on 50th just east of 8th, fills the same sort of hole for me. small plates like rock shrimp tempura or fish 'carpaccios' more than the actual sushi.
and pizzarte, which has a nicer upstairs dining room than you might imagine from its lack of curb appeal, makes some excellent pizzas and dishes prepped in the wood fired oven. on 55th off sixth.

re: debinqueens
Thanks for the response! We will be back in the neighborhood and these seem like good suggestions.
We wound up going to Pure Thai Shophouse, 9th around 52, a tiny place which we liked very much - a very good grilled seafood salad with lemongrass, herbs and peanuts, a tender pork sate and a noodle dish - all were very well seasoned, definitely a cut above the other Thais we have had in that neighborhood in recent years. run by the Land Thai folks.
