Good Breakfast place / cafe around 401 and DVP or Don Mills area?

torontoapple Jun 8, 2012 08:36 PM

I am trying to find a good place to have breakfast, not brunch but early breakfast or cafe type place around 401 and 404, I was checking out the Don mills center but doesn't seem they have anything good for early breakfast. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Oh ugh, I'm sorry, I have to disagree on Cora's. It's so very bad and so very expensive for being so bad. I've eaten at Cora's 4 or 5 times over the years (though other people's requests) and every single time I walk away thinking "never again".

To the OP, if you don't mind getting off at Leslie, head over to Sunshine Spot on Sheppard. It's across from the Canadian Tire, in the same plaza as Taro's Fish. It's a humble, but bustling family restaurant that does basic all day breakfasts in just about any form you can imagine. My only rec is to avoid the ham, which I don't like. But omelettes, pancakes, french toast, westerns, etc. are all good and really well priced.

+1 for the Sunshine Spot...introduced to me several years ago...really like that little place...I also agree re: Cora's...never could understand the popularity of that place...

I could suggest several places a bit south of your requested location...Donlands Restaurant on Donlands just south of O'Connor is one of my favourite old school breakfast places...

Another vote for the Sunshine Spot. Cora's = YUCK!

Rosemary & Thyme at 2798 Victoria Park Ave is close to the 401 & DVP.

While I agree that the Sunshine Spot serves a decent breakfast, I prefer the breakfasts at Rosemary & Thyme.

Aroma Espresso Bar located at The Shops at Don Mills also serves coffee and breakfast (in a chain coffee shop setting, with counter service rather than table service), and has some Israeli breakfast dishes on the menu. I liked my potato boureka. It opens at 7 am.

Anthony's Grill at 1090 Don Mills Road serves breakfast. http://anthonysgrill.ca/, as does Windfield's at 801 York Mills just east of Leslie.

Valleyfield's Restaurant --Lawrence Avenue E, two lights east of DVP on the north side of the street. They do a great breakfast with very generous proportions. We've been going there for years.

I was at Valleyfields this weekend. I think the prices have gone up considerably in the past year. Food is good for sure

I can't say that I've noticed that much of a difference. We have been going to Valleyfields for years and fairly often (usually for brunch), and I don't think the amount of our bill has grown much. We've tried other places for brunch, but for price, quality and quantity we keep coming back.

The Prince Restaurant inside the Westin hotel on York Mills just west of Don Mills Rd. has decent breakfast offerings.

There is a little cafe called Sweetway at 170 The Donway west that serves very nice breakfast sandwichs like Egg-Bacon and Cheese on a bagel or toast which is very yammy and very fair prices. You can get the sandwich and a 12oz coffee (not 10oz) for $4.19 and they brew one of the best coffees around
