Reporting back from Ottawa visit - Anniversary Dinner
Thank you all for your excellent recommendations. We have never had so many types of tapas in just a few days. Based on your suggestions we spent our anniversary at Play. While it was wildly expensive, it was also outstanding. The service was exceptional. Whiie not quite accessible, we were able to carry my scooter in from a side door and park it for the evening. The wait staff worked with the kitchen to make sure that nothing that we ordered would be a problem with my food allergies. The most memorable dishes included a grilled octopus salad, rabbit terrine, and gorgeous grilled scallops
We had dinner another night at Sidedoor Kitchen. They are not accessible at all, but, I was able to park my scooter at the top of the stairs, and hubby and staff helped me down to our table. While the noise level was not really suitable for an intiimate dinner, the staff heard well enough to find out which dishes I could have with my allergies, and to make some good suggestions. We had a completely different grilled asparagus salad, and super duck breast. The chef's selection of donuts for dessert was worth the calories and carbs, and the extra week of dieting I will have to suffer through to make up for them.
The only sour note was at Scone Witch. The hotel called ahead and spoke to Alex to see if there was an accessible entrance. There wasn't. The concierge requested that they reserve a table for me as it would be difficult for me to stand for a long period of time. He refused. When I asked it if would be okay to leave my scooter on the street by the entrance Alex replied that he was not familiar with the city code. (What?) Even though you had to go one place for your scones, and another place for your tea, everything was yummy. But having to pay separately for your butter and jam - just mean. Like Alex.

I went to Play last week and I thought it was a good choice for celebrating a birthday. We had about 2 plates each which included a cheese plate, with two sides of frites and roasted beets. We shared a mid-priced bottle of white and in total, for all three of us, it came to about $55 plus tax. The chocolate pate and oatmeal cake desserts were great--I find that some restaurants may do great appetizers and mains, but skimp on dessert, but it wasn't the case here. We were seated on the second floor, which was only accessible by stairs. Would recommend Play as a good option in Ottawa.
