Fresh Garbanzo Beans

CindyJ Jun 7, 2012 04:32 PM

I was at the Mexican grocery store this afternoon and was intrigued enough by the fresh garbanzo beans in the produce section to buy a bag of them. But I have NO idea what to do with them -- or how to do it. Can anyone help me? Thanks!!!

just cook them over high heat in their pods with a little oil till they are charred a bit sprinkle with salt, Pico de Gallo and a squeeze of lime. eat like Edamame
    Make green hummus.
Make fresh green Falafael with some Favas and the Garbonzos
They are great in Soups, Salads or as a side dish.

So they get sauteed right in the pods? Do they cook quickly?

        Yes right in the pod.
In just a few minutes depending on the pan and heat source. Id say 3 to 5? just pop one out of the shell and check after 3 you can always continue cooking if you like them softer.
