Problem finding recent Supertaster videos

Ditdah Jun 7, 2012 04:09 AM

I'm not sure if Site Talk is for all technical issues, or just those from the CH discussion forums, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this.

Also can I just say right of the bat that I am NOT starting this thread to complain about the new video without transcript option, as I'm one of the group who prefers the new format.

I noticed this week that when watching a Supertaster video, if I click the "All Supertaster" link below the video, or the "Supertaster" breadcrumb above the title, the page it takes you to (http://www.chow.com/food-news/superta...) does not include the most recent videos. The last one shown is the meat/fish Japanese candy one for May 24th.

In the comments of one of the Supertaster videos, someone asked why the videos don't show up in the "Whats New" section of Chow. Meredith responded to that question:

"We're working to reorganize our content, and make sure everything appears in the proper place. Since Supertaster makes videos, we're moving him and all other videos to our video hub. The "what's new" area is going to be solely for written stuff as we make the changes associated with our content reorganization over the next couple of weeks.
Thanks, Meredith of CHOW"

So, I'm not sure if the Supertaster page stopped updating as a result of that change? But it's very frustrating... I don't watch the videos everyday; I usually catch up on them once or twice a week. That was easy when they all appeared on that one page, as I could just play one after another without having to open seperate browser windows.

However, without new videos appearing on that page, it's very difficult to find any that I missed. I can look at the top bar of CH and hope to come across any, but it's not always easy to do that. If I go to the Video hub, as suggested by Meredith, it doesn't appear that nay new ones are there. (There are only 5 pages of results, and it doesn't look like they include the "Supertaster Daily" series.) The best option I've found is to watch them directly on YouTube, but I'd prefer not to do so. I am watching them as part of the Chow site, I want to watch them on Chow.

Is it possible to go back to having all new Supertaster videos be added to the main Supertaster page? (http://www.chow.com/food-news/superta...) Or, if they are being moved elsewhere, can they be listed in chronological order somewhere?

I believe that this is happening in error. I'm working with the video team to identify the problem; thank you for bringing this to our attention.

      Hi Ditdah,

Thanks for your questions and comment! Let me explain exactly what's happening, as I'm sure other people have the same question you do:

We are moving all Supertasters into the video hub. However, there are a few engineering issues we need to solve before the transition is complete. One is that we need to make sure that Supertasters do not overtake the "most recent" category, since it's a daily video. Another is that we need to make sure that the new publishing system is in place to make the video appear on the site, and not only on Youtube.

I would ask for a couple of weeks patience as we work out these issues. Many people have complained about Supertaster appearing in the "New in CHOW" area on the righthand side of Chowhound, and that is the problem we're trying to solve, so know that the fact that things are changing is a direct result of us trying to solve user problems, not create more of them.

      Thanks, Meredith of CHOW

Thanks so much for your response and explanation! I assumed it had something to do with the reorganization, but knowing what's going on and why is very helpful. Plus, it's nice to know it's not just a quirk that no one cares about.

        Thanks again!
