Lunch Challenge: Large group, some vegetarians, moderately priced, creative

I am visiting NYC with15 women in July. I'm looking for two lunch spots. One needs to be near the LES. The second lunch can be pretty much anywhere in the city. Considering DBGB Kitchen & Bar but one friend thinks its too expensive. Would like to consider 456 Shanghai but it doesn't take reservations. Babbo may also be an option (again a little higher priced that we prefer). Danji was on my list but too funky for some of the group.

Criteria are: options for vegetarians, moderately priced (around $20-$25 per person), creative menu (but not too out there) , takes reservations (we will split into two groups of 8 and 7).

Suggestions? I am tearing out my hair!

I would definitely suggest ABC Kitchen @18th St. for the non-LES choice. Fantastic atmosphere, clean and organic food and very creative. The lunch menu is higher than your budget, but they offer a 3 course prix fix that's around your price range. You definitely need a res and they are tough to get, so book in advance.

    Good luck and enjoy!

we went there last year for dinner and was definitely considering a return visit. It's high on the list of possibilities and now higher!

Unfortunately your group is too large for Babbo.

"We can seat parties of up to six but no larger. For larger groups, please call our sister restaurants, Del Posto, Otto or Lupa."

Rubirosa might be an option as well.

What about Balaboosta? Across the street from Rubirosa. Very inventive but not crazy, lots of options for the vegetarians. The space is a little small but I think they could make it work. One caveat: only open for lunch Tues-Fri.

Ciano offers a 3-course lunch prix-fixe for $20.12. Incredible bargain for food of such high caliber. Several choices for each course, including vegetarian dishes. Very nice rustic ambiance. They take reservations and can accommodate a group your size.
