Guanaco Food Truck Downtown on Seymour
Happened by the Guanaco Food Truck today and true to form ordered a Pupusa w/Beans & Cheese-which comes with Yucca fries/Curtido & Salsa.
Having lived in Central America (although not El Salvador) I like to think I know what the authentic taste is and Believe Me people This Is It!
Simply delicious/perfectly done by an operation that knows it's stuff.
For those unfamiliar with Pupusas they're a stuffed Tortilla of medium proportions and there has never been anywhere in this town that approached the level of quality this truck produces.
If you're expecting fiery flavours this isn't it-Salvadoran food is quite mild-well so is most food throughout Central America but it's still a treat and quite filling-not overly salty either which is important to me personally.
They're on Facebook and this youtube vid gives you some idea of what to expect.
Buen Provencho!

I had about given up on the cart scene but you've convinced me! I'll give them a try soon.

re: grayelf
with respect, i am curious as to why you say you'd about given up on the carts --- i don't often have opportunity to try them -- so i don't have much experience ... i thought they added to the downtown scene - but is it the cost per serving, the line-ups (ie you don't have much time on your lunch hour), the food quality, the service? etc that discourages you from being a customer?
i don't have any connection to any of the vendors in any way -- just curious to learn more ... i look fwd to your response
ps - the vendor that SS describes above does sound tempting. Seymour and what cross st?

re: grayelf
thank you for your input
actually, i have been deterred by the "stand up and eat" concern too --- there's a reason for hotdogs, isn't there? or ice-cream cones - weren't they invented for the express purpose of wander and eat (worlds fair chicago way back when)
how often does one still come across that budget-friendly (i assume) "stand up and eat dinner" TREND?! at corporate / convention events. I was at one the other day - at one of the bigger hotels in Whistler. I dislike it. Either a cocktail reception or a dinner - not a combo for me. : )

Time for a concrete example: I paid $9 for a BLT wrap at Pig on the Street yesterday. It was too big and fall apart-y, the stuffing was average (apart from the bacon which is very good) and the flatbread was cold and meh at best; I threw out half. I paid $9 and $9.50 respectively for two different, perfectly prepared, delicious, well balanced sandwiches that were warm and came with a wee side salad on a china plate indoors at a table at Notturno Paninoteca with a refilled glass of water to wash it down. Care to guess where I'll be returning to?
Tried to go to Guanaco today but they were not in their usual spot (which is of course another gripe from someone who is not a Twitter follower).

no tweets for me either ... i don't really understand tweets.
but - i did just try some "jarred" oysters (ie the ones in the fish dept at supermarket) in panko crust- per suggestion-- i think i did well by my own cooking. that's a separate thread on here recently (started by albertaman?) --- and i stood a la sidewalk n ate them in my own kitchen ; ) with tasty water ... but no seagulls

re: Georgia Strait
Some other facets of the Guanaco Experience that really brought back Central America to me-
1-Traffic roaring along Seymour just a few feet away-being on a One Way really helps in that regard.
2-Constant smashing & crunching racket from The Bay exterior renovations across the street.
3-The blaring stereo speaker on the exterior of the truck positioned so that it plays right in your face & ear as you try to order-thus forcing you to scrunch up your face and shout your order toward the people inside.
YMMV
