Wonderful Dining in Quebec City

We are just finishing up our few days in Quebec city. The food here is really wonderful and there are two places I would totally go back to in a heartbeat. One is Le Lapin Saute. We ate there for breakfast and the food was so good and the service so sweet. I had the crepe with eggs and mushrooms and my dining partner had the eggs fried in Maple syrup. That was quite the treat.

But the best meal of the vacation was at L'Affaire Est Ketchup. This tiny place is not to be missed. The food was sublime, the service was great and the vibe was incredible. We had the sweetbreads with truffles and the pulled pork sliders for starters. The pork was not like some heavy southern BBQ. It was light and vibrant. The sweetbreads were divine.

For our main courses we had the scallops and the duck. Both were really wonderful and so well prepared. The chocolate brownie dessert was fabulous as was the coffee. All the food was wonderful but it was the playfulness of the setting that really made this a nearly perfect meal (what and I saying???It was perfect). If I come back to Quebec City that will be a place I return to again.

Thanks a lot for the report. We are a bit lacking in Quebec City info on this board so this is appreciated. Glad you had a good trip!

Hi all, I'm spending next weekend in Quebec City to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday. Any recommendations on modern/hip restaurants and also quaint pubs?

      Can't wait.

The folks at L'Affaire Est Ketchup opened another restaurant a block away. Can't remember the name as there was no sign on the door and my French sucks, but it was packed and delicious. Just call the Ketchup folks and they will steer you there; Ketchup was closed the night we went but this place was open.

Also enjoyed Brulerie Limoilou in the Limoilou neighborhood.

Best part of Quebec City: so walkable and bike-able! Limoilou is less than 10 minutes by bike from Basse-Ville.

thanks for the recommendation on L'Affaire est Ketchup - I ate there this summer and the meal was absolutely memorable, the service just right. I hope they fix their ventilation problem soon, I will be going back in a month and want to visit.
