The perfect jelly donut. t
For years my husband has been looking for the jelly donut of his youth. Must have raspberry jelly and granulated sugar(only) on outside. Of course must me a great doughnut too. We found one at Peter Pan bakery in Greenpoint Bklyn and ZAbars does one around Hannukah.

I wonder if the bombolini at Falai on Lafayette wouldn't fit the bill. I thought I remembered there being a sugar covered version.
Polish/Ukranian markets carry a jelly donut year round, and there are some in the East Village.
With these, they make variations close to what you want, but there are also powdered sugar, and no sugar versions, and they switch up. The jelly filling will probably be very close if not exact.›1 Reply -

What about Orwasher's on the UES? I think you have to get there early to snag them, but apparently they are made to order, and that looks an awful lot like granulated sugar on top: http://www.ediblemanhattan.com/topics...
