Korean Festival (yes, food involved) 6/10 Southfield [DTW]
The Korean Cultural Center at 24666 Northwestern Hwy in Southfield will hold its “Dano Festival,” which in Korea traditionally marks the completion of Spring planting season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dano_%28... Obviously, some of the foods involved will be traditional (particularly given that this event isn’t much advertised among non-Koreans; and yes, I’ve been assured that non-Koreans are enthusiastically welcomed). The food offered will be free, so it is hard to imagine it could be too plentiful and wonderful, but Korean’s are a pretty prideful bunch, so you never know. I'll probably make an in-kind donation upon conclusion of my visit.
There also will be some dancing performances and other rituals… as well---inevitably---as bad Asian pop music, I’m guessing. I’ve not been to this location, but I think it is near Evergreen and Ten Mile Road. Start time is 1pm (Sun 10-June), though the gentleman answering the phone (248-945-9044) hinted that I may want to arrive a half hour early if I was a foodie. Hey, if any of you have been to past Dano Festivals in town, or elsewhere, please share your experience. Thanks!
