Dinner in Avignon

We will be in Avignon for a Saturday dinner in August. No car...we will be staying at Hotel Le Colbert at 7 rue Agricol Perdiguier. Any restaurants within walking distance you recommend?

all good choices. We really like Hiely on the place de la Republique.

We enjoyed a brasserie style meal at La Fourchette some two weeks ago. There were also good write ups about L'Essential but we could not get a table.

We loved Pace e Salute, 25, Place des Carmes. Let the owner pick a selection of Corsican dishes for you, she'll ask for your preferences. And Le Moutardier du Pape, 15 Place du Palais des Papes for a beautiful standard French meal; you could probably sit outside by the Cathedral. We had a great time in Avignon and these 2 are high on our list of best meals in France.

My wife and I had dinner at La Vieille Fontaine (one Michelin star) in the Hotel d'Europe in 2005. I don't remember the details of what we ate, but we had the tasting menu, which was fantastic, and it was probably the nicest meal (total experience) that we've ever had. We sat out in the courtyard, and the weather was fantastic, and the service was superb. It is about a kilometer from your hotel.
