Engagement Dinner

I'm looking for a great restaurant to celebrate my brother's engagement with our family. It doesn't have to be super fancy, but would like it to be upscale and feel special. We grew up in Boston, so we've been to the old standards many times (Locke Ober, L'Espalier, Radius, etc), and I think it would be fun for us all to go somewhere new.

The only restriction is that one of us (okay, me) is a vegetarian, but as long as there's anything vegetarian, I'm good - just no steakhouses/bbq/seafood focused restaurants.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have lived in NYC for years so am not as familiar with the Boston restaurant scene anymore.

Thanks very much for any help!!

  1. Check out Salts. Main st cambridge Small special. And accommodates vegetarian well with at least one veg main.

    1. I'd put Oleana on the list.

      1. If open to Cambridge/Somerville- Bergamot and TW Food
        Boston- Bistro du Midi, Troquet

i love Troquet, but wine should be the main consideration when going there.

I don't understand why Troquet doesn't get more love for the food and it feels like there's a bit of CH groupthink going on with that particular aspect of the restaurant (though, I'm not saying your opinion is "tainted"). I've always had good meals there- suckling pig, scallops, octopus app, and the desserts are pretty good. I'll concede that it's a bit pricey.

Have you had bad experiences with food or just think that money would be better spent somewhere else?

*EDIT* doesn't appear to have any veg options anyway but I'm still interested in your experience.
