One night in Montauk

Aloha - Hawaii hound spending one evening in Montauk on the way into NYC. I'd prefer seafood, but am open to anything good. Considerign the "Inlet" mostly for the location. Mahalo!

The Inlet is a great choice, especially if you're looking for a view. Navy Beach has another, equally nice, view and a little more sophisticated than most.

How are you arriving, that Montauk is on the way into NYC....by boat? The Yacht Club might be a good place for you too, I believe anyone can dock there.

Nice, thanks. I wish I was arriving by yacht. Coming across from New London on the Orient Point Ferry and then driving down L.I. to NYC.

Are you taking the ferry across Shelter Island....or there is a brand new ferry from Greenport to Sag Harbor, skipping Shelter Island, starting up soon but not sure that they will take cars? Otherwise you will have to drive at least three hours from north fork around to south fork and out to Montauk. It's a great ride, just want to make sure you know what's involved.

The traffic can be horrendous, if you need any more ideas you can email me. It's not out of the question, if you're staying over for the night somewhere. But there are plenty of outstanding places on the North Fork too, you can have a wonderful time, so no worries.

If you are ultimately headed for NYC, as much as we'd miss you on the South Fork, you might just head west from Orient and keep going.
