I went to Joel Robuchon last month - with two tasting menus and two of the least expensive wine pairings (there were 3) - with tip - came to $1800.

This dates me a bit but that's more than my first two cars and first motorcycle - combined. (TR3, Volvo 122s, Triumph TR6 Trophy).

And that's just too much money. For that kind of money, every bite has to be delicious and head-smacking original. And there were some great ones, and a couple that I normally wouldn't comlain about in a public forum - but really? There was uni on mashed potatoes - and I couldn't taste the une. There was a parmesan bean sprout risotto - which was just weird. You went too far Joel! You jumped the shark and screwed the pooch. You lost me as fan and a customer.

Interesting, had 2 122s( one a wagon, and a 544 to boot ), three triumph bikes , still have a 69 TT500, and used to file my fingernails out the door of my TR-3B. In Paris at atelier you can eat well for about 100 euros/pp. Avoid the pre fixe as most do. l get the squab with foie wrapped in cabbage and fleur de sel twice with the accompanying pommes puree and a glass or two of wine, full and happy am l.
