Where to find lounge/Bar similar to Tar Pit

On our weekend trips to LA we often ended up at 11-12pm on Fridays or Saturdays after some tasting menus at Tar Pit for a few relaxed last cocktails of the night. The place was lively but relaxed and not too loud to be able to hear each other, had good cocktails and not too crowded that you wouldn't get a table/place at the bar for an hour. Unfortunately Tar Pit closed, so where are similar places in West LA and downtown ? There are a number of places with good cocktails, like Copa d'or but you have to wait for an hour to get in on Fridays/Saturdays etc. Any ideas where to find our Tar Pit replacement ?

    1. Never been to Tar Pit, but I have heard Mirabelle has a relaxed bar scene. Eveleigh might work too although I dont know if it gets loud late.

Thanks for the first ideas. It might indeed be the best way to look for regular restaurants which are opened late and have a good cocktail program. A few names which looked promising were Red Medicine, Freddy Smalls and The Charlston. Any opinions if these places are good for a late night cocktail (and a few bites to eat) ?

There was one review of Freddy Smalls by (IIRC) Mucho Gordo after I had posted about seeing it finally open after riding by it all the time during construction on my nightly bicycle rides. Another place close to Freddy Smalls that would also be worth looking into would be Plan Check on Sawtelle.

ADD: Sorry, it was Gordo26 (found it here):

    2. Playa just replaced its high-top cocktail tables with a small lounge area and is open late on the weekends …
