Unidentified Chicken Part

There's some sort of internal bit of the chicken that's about the size of a large marble, is bright orange coloured and appears to come in a cluster. Does anyone know what this is? I can identify everything else spread out on the chicken counter at the market.

Aren't the ovaries the organs that 'produce' the eggs? if so, how could these chicken 'parts' be so-called 'unborn' eggs? (Would not unlaid be more precise).

I see those regularly at the Asian market.

a big delicacy when we were growing up, they were added to chicken soup for a few minutes before serving and everybody in the family used to fight over who got the eggs in the soup. Haven't seen them for years.

Neither have I. I think that in the decades & decades I've been buying chicken - both from supermarkets & from local free-range farmers - I've come across them twice.

What you're looking at are pretty much "unborn egg yolks" (aka "chicken ovaries), that sometimes get missed when the chickens are cleaned for market.

            Ah, that sounds possible.

The market where I buy chicken kills them and cuts them up on site (sometimes while you're waiting), so they've got pretty much everything on display.

(which would be what I said way back there at the top....)

Deep fry them and serve with plastic sword toothpicks and a blue cheese dipping sauce. Let your guests try them and then observe them for 20 minutes.

Google "chicken ovaries" -- I think that's what you're looking at.
