Can you Mail Oreo Truffles?

GraceW May 26, 2012 03:02 PM

Given that oreo truffles have cream cheese in them, does that mean you should not mail them? I was raised with the impression that anything with cream cheese must be refrigerated. Therefore, I am thinking:

NO: you cannot mail cream cheese oreo truffles. What do you think?

Also, I found a recipe with sweetened condensed milk.. would that work to 'stay safe' in the mail?

It depends on when you are mailing them. I don't see why they can't be mailed as long as they are kept pretty cool. Because not everyone is going to refrigerate them after they get it but it can be.

most baked items with cream cheese also contain eggs. that's more the danger as far as food safety goes.

unless you're overnighting them someplace, it could be several days in transit. it's 90 degrees in my neck of the woods today and even hotter in the back of a freight truck. oreo trufles would be a melted mess.

pack them with lots of ice packs and express ship, or i wouldn't bother.

I say no, not without ice and overnight, probably even in cooler climes/times. Ask yourself this: would you mail someone a package of cream cheese? There's your answer. Introducing cookie crumbs and coating in chocolate doesn't change the essence of the question because it doesn't change the condition of the cream cheese.

You could certainly do it overnight with a little chunk of dry ice.

Thank you everyone! It definitely is not worth it to overnight or with ice.. I will/can mail something else!

            Thank you for your help.
