  • 7

We will be in Cambria for three days in June - We would like some recs for good food, not second mortgage time, with a view. Thanks...

  1. For great seafood, a nice ocean view and a happy crowd, visit the Sea Chest.
See the web site at http://www.seachestrestaurant.com/mai...
No credit cards, be prepared and enjoy the food.

Hoppe's down the road 15 min in Cayucos, or The Cass House there as well. Lunch at Robin's or Wild Ginger in town. Soto's market downtown for provisions. Red Moose cookie company's Cinn Ful cookies if you like Grandma type baked goods (big, rich, gooey) or Cayucos' Brown Butter Cookie CO. for pricy posh cookie-ettes.

I had wanted to try the Sea Chest on a Sunday night last August. I'd looked at the posted menu and while it looked kinda high to me, that's Cambria. Walked along the beach road more than an hour before it opened, and there were more than 40 people in line waiting for it to open. Those in the know brought lounge chairs with them, and folks had cheese plates and open wine bottles for the wait. Yes, a happy crowd. Needless to say, I gave up the idea as I was hopelessly unprepared for the reality of trying to get a seat.

The Sea Chest, in my opinion, is a very standard seafood house, that only takes cash and always has a huge line. Further, due to restaurant design/location/time of year, the views of the water can be difficult as often the shades are down due to the positioning of the sun as it sets.

If they took credit cards, and it was reasonably easy to eat there, I would say give it a try....but due to the lines, and the cash only, it edges on a restaurant I can't recommend.

It's a little ridiculous they don't take cash. A seafood restaurant with prices that high--and doesn't take cash? Good place for a mugger to hang out..

It takes cash. Cash only, no credit cards.

Check out Robin's or Black Cat Bistro. We also like The Sow's Car Cafe. They have really good Salmon in Parchment Paper there and the ambiance is very cozy. Their Fried Brie appetizer is also delicious! :)
