EX-Chicagoans in DFW

  • 4

I coordinate dinners for Ex-Chicagoans in DFW, monthly, at various Chicago owned and Chicago food restaurants in the DFW Metro-plex. We are also on Facebook. There are quite a few places to get your fix.
I like the Chicago Corner and Danny’s Pizza in Arlington, Chicago street and Rosati’s in McKinney Bel Gusto's in Irving is from New Berlin, WI. I meet Ex-Chicagoans at least once a week or two. we have around 324 members but only 20 – 30 people will come out for meetups. We have a email listing of all the places we have found in the Metroplex called "Ties to Home"

  1. Unless you've already been, ya'll should be sure to visit the "Old World Sausage Company" in Shed 2 of the Dallas Farmers Market. It's a small piece of Chicago here in Dallas.

I would avoid the Old World Sausage company if you are looking for Italian Beef. They served the absolute worst version I've ever eaten. Ever.

I'm not from Chicago. Although, I've spent more than enough time there to know Chicago's food is wonderfully diverse and excellent.

I only recommended Old World Sausage Company because I knew they were from Chicago.

So, I decided to give their Italian beef sandwich a try and I must say, I agree with you. I was totally underwhelmed!

        Their sausage seemed ok, though.

So, another suggestion. European Market and Deli at Forest and Central across from Medical City. They're basically a Polish family owned deli but all their (Polish style) cold cuts are Imported from Chicago. And they're some of the best I've had in Dallas. Especially the stuffed duck salami.

So, if any of you Chicago ex-pats have not been, you might want to give them a try.

    2. Grew up in Elmhurst, so I'd love to join your group. Texas Star Grill in on Denton Hwy. not far from me, and I understand the owner is from Chicago. I've heard good things about their Italian Beef sandwich.
