Best Carrot Cake in the mont/bux burbs?

cgarner May 25, 2012 09:56 AM

I'm going to a 70th birthday party this weekend and I offered to either make or bring the honoree's favorite cake... carrot cake

I make a good carrot cake, but have so much other stuff to do this weekend, I'm willing to splurge on a REALLY good store bought cake

any ideas/suggestions for Montgomery/Bucks County area?

I recently had a carrot cupcake from a new bakery at the Creekside Farmer's Market in Elkins Park. The bakery doesn't have a storefront, but they do take orders and will do some delivery or meet somewhere. The cupcake was really delicious and I'm sure they would do a cake out of it.

If you have a Whole Foods near you, I can recommend their carrot cake. I bought one last year at our Whole Foods (Fairmount) and everyone enjoyed it.

We've had several carrot cakes from WF and have always found them to be unexceptional and often dry.

Zakes Cakes (Cafe). I haven't tried their CC cut I've heard it's good.

          I'll second Zake's for anything..
However, I fondly remember my first slice of carrot cake ever at the Country Club Diner on Cottman Ave. around 1975 - you know, back in the days of wine and cheese parties, spinach dip in the hollowed out boule and Harvey Wallbangers. It was superb but unlike there anymore.

Soon tabora will be open in Lansdale. That will be so convenient. I've been eagerly watching their progress next to the kugel ball.

Wound up getting one from Tabora Farms, it was fantastic. I stopped at WF and they had no carrot cake, so as a "just in case" I got the strawberry cake with whipped cream... wow, that was really good too (both cakes went in a flash!)
                Thank you for your suggestions!

Tabora has the best bakery including GF. If you liked the carrot cake, try the chocolate devils food! Their breads are to die for!
