Absolutely the BEST pretzels I've ever had!

CindyJ May 24, 2012 06:48 PM

I bought this package of pretzels at The Fresh Market. They're Unique brand Extra Dark "Splits." I'm not sure what they mean by "Splits" but they're everything a pretzel ought to be. Crisp, over-baked so they're darkened and crunchy, and absolutely delicious. When I think about it, the parts of a pretzel I've always liked best are the crisp ends. The pretzels in this package are entirely over-baked -- and I'm loving them. Has anyone tried these? What do you think of them?

I've seen them - and not bought them - just because I know I would eat them all in the car before I got home.

I was so happy to see your post about these Unique brand Extra Dark Pretzels. They have been my favorite pretzel for years. Glad to know there are other fans out there. There is absolutely nothing like them in the world. I have always loved dark, almost burnt pretzels because they have so much more pretzel flavor and was thrilled to find this brand. The only problem is that I sometimes have trouble finding them. I get them from the Amish Market in Annapolis, MD now.

I got mine at The Fresh Market. I see they have a store in Annapolis -- you might try getting them there.

They are called splits because they split open along the top. I buy a box of these every year (they keep well longer than the stated best-by date.)

Karl, can you let me know where you get them, since we're in the same general vicinity of each other?

These are made near my hometown and I'd always ask my parents to bring a bag or two when they'd come to visit me in IN. The extra dark splits are my favorites! I did see them at Kahn's Wines and Spirits in Indianapolis. Didn't know that they were also available at Fresh Market, so thanks for the heads up! I have also seen them at Earth Fare (in Fairlawn, OH)' but I don't get up that way very often.

A bag or two? I can go through that in a week. I need more. I admire your restraint

These are a godsend to the fan of the burnt bits of the end of a pretzel stick. If you like sweet salty try them dipped in nutellla. Heaven!

I saw them at the Giant a couple of days ago. I guess they're catching on.
