Need help with a chuck roast----how long does it have to cook?

Typically we have steak or chicken for enchiladas, tacos, etc. but the little darlings have requested shredded beef tacos for this evening's dinner. Unfortunately, the chuck roast that I put in the crock pot this morning at 7 a.m. is still rock hard and won't shred so I placed it back in the crock pot. At this point, we are going to be eating breakfast tacos?

    How long has it been cooking? It usually takes me about 5-6 hours on medium.

      How much does it weigh? A four pound chuck roast should be ready to "pull" in about five or six hours if cooking on high. Note that "low", "medium" and "high" on slow cookers means very little. Each will establish a fixed temperature but the temperature will vary from one crock pot to another.

        Do you have to keep it in the crock pot?
        If it's possible I'd take it out and put it in the oven on a slow roast.

          The precooked weight was 2.5 pounds and was on the "low" setting since 7 a.m.

          At this point I think the taco dinner will be tomorrow night.....especially after smelling it cook all day :)

            Too late now, but if it happens again in the future, simply dump everything from the slow cooker into a large sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil, loosely wrap it so there's a little air space, seal it completely (poke a couple of slits in the top with a knife to let air pressure escape), and rock it in a 350 degree F oven until it can be pulled.

              On low, the chuck will take about 9 hours. However, if if you can't shred the meat, I would just use a knife and cut slices or chop. I know it isn't shredded meat, but the meat will still be delicious. People need to be fed.

              I pressure cook them one hour
