Can you oven roast frozen leeks?

Oven roasted fresh leeks are wonderful.

But, can you take a package of frozen leeks, thaw them and oven roast them?

I picked up some Trader Joe's leeks and gave up on the idea. Not only too moist, but the pieces are too small.

I do love the Trader's leeks, for stews, braised dishes, and soups. I never see frozen leeks in other stores.

Roasted leeks are wonderful. Pity there's no shortcut.

The ones I've bought from Trader Joes are rounds, with a mix of white and tougher green. I simmer them in a bit of water till tender, and use them where retaining the leek identity is not important.

I haven't tried to roast them, but would not expect anything like roasted fresh.

You can try, but they will most likely turn out rather mushy.

For me, frozen leeks would only be good for soups, stocks, stews, etc., where you'd be looking for their flavor rather than their texture.

Worth a try - although I've never frozen leeks so I don't know how they defrost (maybe they'll be a bit too wet)

            Be bold.
