The Left Handed Cook
Decided to swing by and try the The Left Handed Cook, which has taken over the old La Sirena Gorda space in Midtown Global. The space is nice, with a small table adjacent to the service counter. Alas, the table was full.
I ordered the 21 spice fried chicken dish, which came with rice and a choice of side. Lot's of choices on the menu, but I went with charred brussels sprouts, and added a side of the asparagus with poached egg.
The meal started with an amuse of spicy/sweet popcorn. A nice touch, and a good introduction to their playful spice blends.
The chicken is boneless, and really nicely done. The 21 spice blend gave it a pleasant saltiness, and the moist/crispy blend was spot on. I wanted a bit strong flavors, what with the 21 spices and all, but fans of fried chicken should enjoy this a lot.
Brussels Sprouts were fine. Needed salt, but the fruit and veggie assortment that came with it was spot on.
Really liked the asparagus. The very soft egg melded with a sort of spicy aioli (reminded me of the sauce that came with La Sirena's octupus tacos, actually), with shreds of a hard cheese (pecorino?) folded in.
Prices are a bit above the MGM norm. Expect to spend $12-18 per person (about on par with Sonora in this regard). Service was friendly and prompt. No first-day anxiety that I could detect.
Really enjoyable meal, and yet another tough decision to make when visiting MGM
