How much will a slate stone expand?

Hi,

if I put a slate stone in my oven, and heat it up to 250 C, approx how much do you think it would expand? And will the interior of the oven expand too, to (partly) cancel the expansion of the stone?

If you are worried about a tight fit then you shouldn't be using that size of stone because there should be a 25mm space all the way around the stone between the walls to provide circulation.

Circulation? Why would I need that? The stone is just sitting on the floor in the oven. As far as I can see, the oven floor is solid, with no holes in it for air to circulate out of anyway.

Where are your heating elements? Is your oven gas or electric?
Is the stone a tight fit between the walls and the door?

Don't know where the heating elements are. Below the floor, I suppose. And above the ceiling. It's an electric oven. Stone sits tightly between the two side walls, an inch or so between stone and door & between stone and back wall.
