I'd be incredibly curious to see how Ree Drummond's crash potatoes would be on the grill. Maybe on foil? The good thing is that they're boiled ahead of time: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/20...

I feel like a broccoli slaw with currants, shallots, and almonds would go really well with this. Or I also love thick slices of vidalia onion grilled over low heat with a honey mustard glaze. Gotta do them thick enough that they're a side dish, not a condiment, And for a dessert, where are you? What fruits are in season now? Because either a crisp or a trifle with your local fresh fruit would be awesome.

The crash potatoes sound awesome! I may try them with ceasar salad or Barefoot Contessa Guacamole salad. Any ideas for easy apps??? We are in NY peaches are like rocks:(

Ina Garten's Grilled Panzanella Salad is an excellent side. (Recipe is on Food Network site.) We also have had great success with a sweet potato salad - but I can't remember where the recipe is from. Basically you peel and cube 2 lbs of sweet potatoes, boil or steam until fork tender, drain, and while they are still warm, toss with 1/4 - 1/3 cup olive oil, diced red bell pepper, scallions, 2 T of lime juice, maybe a teaspoon of cumin, salt and pepper.

Will you be at home w/ refrigerator/freezer access? If so, consider ice cream sandwiches for dessert - any number of kinds and combinations: big peanut butter cookies with chocolate ice cream, sugar cookies with butter pecan, and so on. Easy, delicious, unexpected and fun.
Bruschetta is always a nice appetizer. You could do a dice of tomato and shredded basil with an olive oil and wine or balsamic vinegar dressing, or a seafood salad, or caponata. You can use endives, also, as a nice "boat." And everybody loves deviled eggs, no matter how much they sneer. ;0 There's always spinach dip, or artichoke dip, with crudites and French bread cubes. Some nice side dishes are grilled vegetables: onions, artichokes, tomatoes, corn, asparagus...and marinated vegetable salads are fantastic. I had a wonderful rice salad not long ago consisting of rice with curried mayonnaise, chopped artichoke hearts, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, and sliced almonds...delicious. Ratatouille's a nice one too, and people generally really like it. Sliced boiled potatoes, dressed with a vinaigrette and steamed haricot verts, is yummy, and you get to avoid the whole lotta mayonnaise required for classic potato salad.
And if you want to get ethnic with it, marinate the flank steak in cumin and chiles and lime, and set it out with pinto beans, tortillas, a salsa/toppings bar, Mexican rice, etc...

            Dessert:

Use a cookie cutter (or anything that will give you a circle about 4 inches across - or cut the ice cream into squares) to cut a round of vanilla ice cream. Arrange some chopped or sliced strawberries around the circumference and pile some blueberries on top.
