argentinian asado/ parrilla, esp. wood fired

Would covet recommendations on best in NYC. La Portena/ Queens is ok, but I think there must be better.

Any other suggestions on this topic? We have not been wowed by either of these two, though years ago we thought both were better. Thanks.

Gosh, you'd think NYC would have lots to choose from! Sounds like a niche opportunity for some enterprising young butcher/chef. Guess I'll try the north La Cabana- wood really adds.
Once upon a time in the 1980's (before I went to Argentina), there was a place in Manhattan, with a wood fired asado, the grill being in the front window. The Argentinian embassy staff used to eat there. Gone?

I believe the spot was on west 46th street. South side of the block. Yes, its gone.....

Ironically, its very hard to find good empanadas at an ARG restaurant hereabouts too

La Fusta is the best in NYC much better than La Portena.

la fusta is usually my choice for a meat splurge.

i think the ancillary items at la portena -- from the house special salad to potatoes to pastas -- are far superior, the meats at la fusta have the extra funk and oomph that i crave.
