San Diego nightlife?

crindy May 19, 2012 09:01 AM

Hi all, I went to a nightclub (Stingaree) for the first time for a friend's birthday. I had fun, but I'm not too into the men touching and grinding without permission. I know nothing about nightlife, and I was saying to my friend, "there's got to be another way we can go dancing and drinking and not have to worry about guys touching us." Is there a way? I'm sorry if this is too prudish.

I've been to a few bars, but people don't really dance there. I'm just looking for an atmosphere that is a little less "sexy" than Stingaree. I found the guys there to be a tad aggressive. Any tips/advice? Thanks for reading.

You were in the heart of the tourist district, Gaslamp, probably not the best place or choice if you were looking for something a bit more tame.

True. I live in north county anyway. Are you suggesting that tourists are the problem?

I'm suggesting that you and your friend may be an easy target for out of town visitors or some locals who may be trolling. You probably need to be part of a larger group when clubbing downtown. There's safety in numbers.

I see. We were a group of 5. How large of a group would you suggest?

If you live in North County there is always the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.

I've heard that you can dance in peace at the gay bars.

First of all, if some cochon is touching and grinding without your permission, that for one is not acceptable...immediately alert management/bartender/bouncer.
Never let these cochon's (pigs) ruin your good time.
Second, Belly Up Tavern is a great place to listen to music and dance, albeit, a small dance floor but if you can dance like Elaine from Seinfeld, you can be assured you'll not be touched and have plenty of room to boogie down.
