A real bit of Americana, that place. I traveled the Taconic regularly during the 90s and made several enjoyable stops under the neon chief. Haven't been there in years but happily it sounds as if things haven't changed much over there. And that's a good thing in my book.
Didn't know about the frozen custard, though. It's a favorite of mine, and there isn't much of it to be found in the Capital Region where I live. Thanks for pointing that out, apples.
Another good pit stop is Flory's on the Run Mobil North & Taconic Deli
Flory's Deli is located inside the Mobile gas station 1563 Rte 82
Hopewell Junction, NY 12533, great fried chicken and curly fries, tuna, cole slaw... soft serve available in the summer, tables outside https://foursquare.com/v/florys-conve...
I think you want this one: http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/1961/west-taghkanic-diner
or this one: Taconic Diner Rigor Hill Rd.& Taconic Pkwy Chatham, NY 12037
as the latter two are not very good
